Nikke is an engaging role-playing video game in which players control up to five versatile characters known as Nikkes. These Knicks are deployed in strategic formations to confront the enemy on a dynamic battlefield, utilizing defensive objects for protection.

This third-person shooter requires players to aim accurately, engage enemies with a crosshair, and seek cover to reload – an automatic process when ammunition is exhausted. This tactical approach allows players to thoughtfully plan their attacks.

Each Nick wields a unique gun and embodies one of five different elements, affecting their strengths and weaknesses in combat. Each character has three unique combat skills – including two regular skills and one burst skill – that players can trigger strategically.

Burst skills have a maximum numerical level of three, requiring players to accumulate the necessary costs by damaging enemies before unleashing a powerful initial burst. They are rescued by a Nic named Marianne, but then they discover that Marianne has been corrupted by the Rapture, a dangerous force in their world.

Deputy Commissioner Anderson was impressed with the Counterattack’s ability to fight on their mission and expelled them to operate without government surveillance. Another character, Syuen, forces the Commander to conduct a black operation to capture Chatterbox, an advanced raptor capable of talking.

The mission doesn’t go as planned, and the Counters find themselves overwhelmed with chatterboxes, until Snow White (a Nick from an independent group called the Pilgrims) comes to their rescue.

Events unfold with secrets, betrayals and challenges. The plot involves the characters’ memory wipes, the discovery of a substance called Vapaz, and dealing with corrupt individuals. The desk clerk is promoted to a special commando team responsible for gathering intelligence related to Chatterbox and Marianne’s corruption.

The story also introduces the concept of heretical fragments and their importance in the fight against the Raptures. As the plot progresses, Counter is faced with a major operation to capture Mordenia, a character who has joined the Rapture.

The development of “Nickelodeon” is a collaboration between Korean studio Shift Up and Level Infinite, a publishing brand of Tencent Games. The game’s development journey began around 2017-2018, with ideas generated through internal curation competitions.

Eventually, one of the ideas was chosen as the basis for the game. Originally, Nickelodeon was intended to be played from a first-person perspective, but during development the game’s design shifted to incorporate combat poses inspired by the Gears of War series.

One of the key figures in the game’s development was Shift Up’s CEO Kim Hyung-tae, who played a crucial role in overseeing production and creating the game’s illustrations.

It’s worth noting that Nico’s combat environments feature life-size models using Live2D technology, unlike the chibi-style characters seen in many other games. Nikke was first introduced to the public at the Crank in Showcase event in 2019 and was showcased at various trade shows before its official launch.

While the game was initially planned for a global release in 2020 on Android and iOS platforms, it was later rescheduled and finally launched on November 4, 2022.

Additionally, the Windows version of the game was released on February 15, 2023. Nikke has also collaborated with other series, including the comic series Chainsaw Man and the role-playing game NieR: Automata, introducing characters from those series as playable characters in the game.
